About
A small firm, on purpose.
Heat From Fire takes a few engagements at a time and finishes them. That limit is what lets the person you talk to also be the person who writes the code.
How we work
Software that someone else can maintain.
Most software fails slowly. It works at launch, then becomes expensive to change, and eventually the people who understand it leave. The bill for that arrives years after the decisions that caused it.
So we aim the work at the second year, not the first demo. Conventional patterns over clever ones. Migrations you can run again. Infrastructure written as code, not assembled by hand in a console. Documentation that explains why, because the what is already in the repository.
We keep the practice narrow: full-stack applications, the services behind them, and the pipelines that deploy them. We refer other work to someone else instead of learning it at your expense.
Each engagement starts with a short paid discovery and ends with a full handover: source, infrastructure, accounts, and the reasons behind the design. You should be able to replace us easily.
The other half
We also make hardware.
Maddie Synths is our own Eurorack hardware line: blank panels, DIY module kits, and assembled modules. Shipping a physical product to a stranger tests a process hard, and we apply the same standard to our software.
